Research & Medical Volunteering

There are ongoing opportunities for seniors to support research into ageing and its associated conditions.

Universities are always needing seniors to trial various theories, and volunteering for such, in areas in which you have an interest, is of great importance to future treatments.

Greypath supports many requests for such help and rather than post them on forums we will now list such request here.

Painful Foot Calluses - Latrobe University study latrobeu

callus

To be eligible for the study you must:
- Be over 65 years of age
- Have painful calluses under the ball of your foot
- Not have foot ulcers, numb feet due to diabetes, or
any inflammatory conditions
If you are interested in taking part or would like some
more information, please call us.
Do you suffer
from painful foot
calluses?

Researchers in the Department of Podiatry are conducting a research study to assess the effect of
removing painful calluses in people aged 65 to 80 years of age. Painful callus is a very common
problem in older people, and a frequent reason for them to go to a podiatrist. We are measuring
what effect callus removal has on pain, the pressures underneath the feet and the ability to undertake
mobility tasks.
To take part in the study, you will need to attend on two occasions, 6 weeks apart. Each session will
take 1 to 1½ hours and will be free of charge.

Treatment will be provided in the Department’s
clinical facility by students under the supervision of podiatrists. To assess what is most effective, some
participants will receive different treatment to others. For your time and effort you will also receive a
pair of Dr Scholl’s ‘Party Feet’, which are cushioning pads that can be applied to the soles of your
feet.

toe arthritis

Latrobe University is seeking volunteers to trial a new treatment for toe arthritis, that effects more than half seniors it seems. Click here for a link to the request. We always try and help such studies through our greypathers.

So far we have supported close to a dozen medical studies of ultimate benefit to us all.
